The short version

• Social Browser is a static website. It has no accounts, no cookies, no local storage, no analytics and no tracking, so there is nothing to consent to and no cookie banner.
• When you enter a domain, your browser loads that site's profile directly from that site . The profile does not pass through our servers, and we don't store which sites you look at.
• The sites you browse see your request like any visit to them. Their own privacy policies apply.

Social Browser is provided at sodir.org. It is made by the makers of Downread, and shares its operator.

2. Visiting our pages

Our pages are static files served by Cloudflare, Inc. (USA), which acts as our host and content delivery network. To deliver a page, Cloudflare necessarily processes your IP address, the requested address, your browser's user agent and the time of the request. It may keep this briefly in its own security logs, to protect the service against attacks.

The domain you enter is part of the profile page's address (/profile.html?d=example.com), so it reaches our host with the page request, like any address. We do not log, store or evaluate it.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and processes data for us under EU data-processing terms (see §6).

3. Showing a profile: requests to other sites

To show a profile, your browser (not our server) requests these files from the domain you entered: /.well-known/about.md, /.well-known/following.opml, /.well-known/contact.vcf, the site's feed (from a few usual addresses such as /feed.xml) and its icon (/apple-touch-icon.png, /favicon.ico). The About tab also loads the images the profile contains. The Following tab loads nothing from the sites in that list: it shows their initials instead of their icons.

Like any website you visit, those sites receive your IP address, your browser's user agent, and the address of our site (as the Origin of the request and, for images, as the referring page). They may log these. We have no influence on this, and their own privacy policies apply. The files are requested without cookies. Icons and images are loaded like any image on the web, so your browser may send cookies it holds for those sites, depending on its settings.

What a profile contains (names, email addresses, posts, links) is published by the site itself. We only display it in your browser; we don't copy, store or index it.

4. Cookies and local storage

We set no cookies and use no local storage. We use no advertising networks, analytics providers, fonts or scripts from third parties: our fonts and scripts are served from our own domain.

5. Links

Links in a profile lead to other websites. Once you follow one, that site's privacy policy applies.

6. Who processes data for us

• Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) — hosting and content delivery of our pages (see §2). Where Cloudflare processes data outside the EU, the transfer is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and/or EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

We do not sell data, and we don't share it with anyone else, unless we are legally required to.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. As we don't store data about visitors, there is usually nothing we could give you or delete. For any request, contact .

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection supervisory authority, in Germany the authority of your federal state (or ours), or the authority in your country of residence.

We may update this policy when the website changes. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the current version.
